About this qualification

Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9–1) English Literature (1ET0)

Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9–1) English Literature (1ET0) is not tiered and is assessed by two closed-book exams, so set texts are not allowed in the exam room. Paper 1, Shakespeare and Post-1914 Literature (1 hour 45 minutes, 80 marks, 50%), covers a Shakespeare play and a post-1914 British play or novel. Paper 2, 19th-century Novel and Poetry since 1789 (2 hours 15 minutes, 80 marks, 50%), covers a 19th-century novel, a poetry collection from the Pearson Poetry Anthology and two unseen contemporary poems. In the adapted November 2021 and June 2022 series, Paper 2 was set as two separate options, 2N (novel) and 2P (poetry).
