A-level Physics tutors who do physics for a living

Wisesprout matches A-level Physics students with active researchers — PhD candidates and postdocs at top UK universities who use this physics every day. One to one, online or in London, booked by the session. You'll know exactly who your tutor is before anything starts.

Why a researcher

Physics fails on two fronts: the maths and the concept

A-level Physics tends to slip in two places at once. The maths isn't quite hard enough — rearranging equations, logs, trigonometry, units — so a question that's really a physics question turns into an algebra fight. And the concepts get memorised as sentences rather than understood as models, which holds up until an unfamiliar setup asks you to actually apply the idea. Grades stall at the boundary where the two meet.

Someone who models physical systems for a living treats the maths as a tool and the concept as a picture, and moves fluently between them — which is exactly the skill the exam is testing. Our tutors rebuild both together: enough of the underlying maths to stop losing marks to it, and a working feel for the physics so you can reason about a situation you haven't seen before.

Who you'd work with

Tutors who are active researchers

We're upgrading our mentor system, which we expect to open next month. If you urgently need a tutor, please contact us directly.

How it works

One to one, by the session

Sessions are one to one, online or in London, booked by the session from your wallet — no fixed bundles, stop whenever you want. Before anything starts, we tell you exactly who your tutor is, and you can speak to them first.

Tell us where you are — the board you're on, the topics that hurt, the grade you need — and we'll suggest a tutor and a starting plan on a short call.

FAQ

A-level Physics tutoring, asked directly

Which exam boards do you cover?

The main A-level Physics specifications — AQA, OCR and Edexcel — plus the international routes. Assessment is linear, sat at the end of the two years, and the practical endorsement is reported separately as Pass or Not Classified. Your tutor works from your board's past papers.

My maths isn't strong enough for Physics. Can you help with that?

Yes — and it's one of the most common reasons Physics grades stall. Your tutor can shore up the specific maths a Physics paper leans on as part of your sessions, and if the gap is wider we also teach A-level Maths directly, so the same standard of researcher can take both. Mention it when you book.

Does A-level Physics connect to admissions tests or engineering applications?

Yes. Physics and engineering applications at several top UK universities involve the ESAT, which has a Physics module built on the same A-level content — a strong A-level core is most of that battle. From the 2027 entry cycle, Oxford's physics and engineering courses moved to the ESAT in place of the older PAT, so work from the current admissions-test pages rather than legacy material.

How are sessions run?

One to one, online or in London, booked by the session from your wallet. Your tutor is an active PhD or postdoc researcher — not a former student teaching on the side.

How quickly can we start?

Book a short call and we'll propose a tutor and a starting plan. If we don't have the right researcher available, we'll say so honestly rather than force a match.
