A-level Chemistry tutors who work in a lab, not from a mark scheme
Wisesprout matches A-level Chemistry students with active researchers — PhD candidates and postdocs at top UK universities who do this chemistry for real. One to one, online or in London, booked by the session. You'll know exactly who your tutor is before anything starts.
The marks are lost in the reasoning, not the facts
A-level Chemistry rarely falls apart because a fact wasn't memorised. It falls apart in the multi-step reasoning — a mole calculation that needs three correct moves in a row, an equilibrium that shifts the way Le Chatelier predicts but not the way the student wrote it, an organic mechanism where the arrows have to mean something. Learn it as isolated facts and the long-answer questions quietly take your grade apart.
Someone who runs reactions and reads spectra for a living sees these chains the way you eventually need to. Our tutors start from why the chemistry behaves as it does — then show you how the exam turns that into marks. Mechanisms stop being shapes to copy and become moves you can reason your way to, even on an unfamiliar molecule.
Tutors who are active researchers
We're upgrading our mentor system, which we expect to open next month. If you urgently need a tutor, please contact us directly.
One to one, by the session
Sessions are one to one, online or in London, booked by the session from your wallet — no fixed bundles, stop whenever you want. Before anything starts, we tell you exactly who your tutor is, and you can speak to them first.
Tell us where you are — the board you're on, the topics that hurt, the grade you need — and we'll suggest a tutor and a starting plan on a short call.
A-level Chemistry tutoring, asked directly
Which exam boards do you cover?
The main A-level Chemistry specifications — AQA, OCR and Edexcel — plus the international routes. The chemistry itself is the same everywhere; what changes is emphasis and question style, so your tutor works from your board's past papers and mark schemes.
Can you help with the required practicals and the practical endorsement?
Yes. The practical endorsement is reported separately as Pass or Not Classified and isn't part of your A*–E grade — but the written papers lean heavily on the required practicals: expected results, sources of error, why a method is designed the way it is. That reasoning is exactly what a working researcher does daily, and it's where we focus.
Does A-level Chemistry connect to Medicine or the ESAT Chemistry module?
Both. Chemistry is a gateway subject for Medicine — most UK medical schools ask for it at A-level, usually alongside another science — so a solid grade matters well beyond the exam. And several admissions tests, including the ESAT, have a Chemistry module built on the same content. Start from our admissions-test pages if that's your goal.
How are sessions run?
One to one, online or in London, booked by the session from your wallet. Your tutor is an active PhD or postdoc researcher — not a former student teaching on the side.
How quickly can we start?
Book a short call and we'll propose a tutor and a starting plan. If we don't have the right researcher available, we'll say so honestly rather than force a match.
Tell us what you're working towards
A short call: where you are, what you need, whether we're the right fit. No scripts, no pressure.
